“Crispy Boy” Air Fryer Chicken Wings

April 2, 2020 by laurenwinegardner

I honesty debated even putting these on the blog because these are so “off brand” and I didn’t know if I wanted to be defined by chicken wings so early on. But it is quarantine, there aren’t any rules, and these wings are freaking DELICIOUS! This isn’t really even a recipe tbh, but I’ll teach you how to make them in your air fryer. The wings turn out so juicy and crispy at the same time. I couldn’t not post them.

Because of this post I’ve decided to make a category called “~NAUGHTY MEALS~” in my recipe section. These are recipes I’m not proud of, but they are necessary to our existence. Kinda like a Homerun Inn frozen cheese pizza. My husband and I have a tradition of calling each other out when eating something bad. For example if I see him eating a whole pint of Tom and Jerry’s I will look and say ooohh you nasty, hence the name.

I have been obsessed with my air fryer ever since I got it last summer from my mom as a wedding gift. We have the Cuisinart Air Fryer and it works like a dream, highly recommended. It not only air fries but it has different settings including broil, bake, toast and air fry. We use it for all different types of food, from salmon to sandwiches.

The key to making chicken wings in an air fryer is the temperature and to make sure you’re flipping them. You start at 360 degrees and gradually end at air frying them at 390 degrees. At the end they will look burnt. They aren’t! I promise! They will just be super crispy and delicious!

We get our wings from the deli at Mariano’s in Chicago. They are already marinated in hot sauce. We just add a little extra before putting them in the air fryer. If you buy plain wings, marinate them in Franks Red Hot or your favorite sauce for at least 2 hours before air frying.

We dip ours in a super naughty mixture that consists of sour cream and hidden valley ranch dip packets. I was going to be all cute and make a homemade version of this ranch with fresh herbs, but honestly what’s the point of spending like $20 on herbs etc. It’s fucking ranch and quarantine. We can’t afford to be this luxurious right now. But if you want to be all boujee with your wings, you do you girl.

** disclaimer! if you wanna be extra naughty you can make the ranch dip right in your sour cream container. Per my husbands instructions just make sure to only mix 1/4 of the mix in at a time or you will have a huge mess!**

“Crispy Boy” Air Fryer Chicken Wings

These chicken wings are as crispy as they can get. Dip them in some sour cream ranch and you've made yourself a naughty little meal.

Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: American
Keyword: Chicken Wings, Ranch, Spicy
Prep Time: 5 minutes minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

WINGS

  • 3 lbs Mariano's marinated buffalo wings (if you are in Chicago) If not I'm sure your store has something at the deli like this
  • ¼ cup Franks Red Hot Sauce

SOUR CREAM RANCH

  • 1 16 ounce container of sour cream
  • 1 Hidden Valley ranch dip packet

Instructions

  • 1. Place wings in a medium bowl. We buy our wings from Mariano's and they are already marinated in buffalo sauce, but we still add in about ¼ of a cup of Franks to toss them in before cooking. If you just have plain chicken wings, I recommend marinating them in the fridge for at least 2 hours in an air tight bag with 1 cup of Franks Red Hot.
    2. Set your air fryer to 360° and on the air fryer setting. Line the bottom of the air fryer cooking sheet with aluminum foil (it will save you a TON of cleaning time) Set approx. 10 wings in the air fryer basket and place the basket on top of the cooking sheet. This will allow the grease to seep through the basket and be caught on the cooking sheet.
    3. The temperature and the flipping of the wings is very important. Start cooking your wings at 360° for 10 minutes. Flip them and cook for 10 more minutes on 360°. Crank up the heat to 390° and cook for 7 minutes. Then flip again and cook another 7 minutes. THEY WILL LOOK BURNT. I promise they are not. They are just super crispy and delicious!
