Leo season is upon us, and with three of our close friends having a birthday this month, a combined party was in store. This Tiki Party featured lots of fun Hawaiian decor, a hot tub, Tiki bar, special smores and lots of delicious food.
This summer, it’s been really fun to create our own small outdoor events. With travel limited and bars mainly still closed, we wanted to create our own paradise here in the city. For this event, we found an Airbnb with an awesome tiki themed backyard. The event space was right in our neighborhood. They allowed us to have 10 people, which was the perfect amount for a socially distanced dinner party.
Tabletop
First of all, I have to give a shout out to our Airbnb host who made us this awesome table for the event. He’s a woodworker and threw this together so quickly. It went perfectly with the theme. We used leaves (from my very large house plant haha) as place mats and added a pop of pink in the napkins. Assorted Tiki glasses filled the table, along with fresh tropical floral from our local farmer’s market.
Bar
Good Tiki drinks are key to throwing a Tiki party. Our guests were greeted with a pina colada when they walked in. It was HOT, so it was the perfect way to cool everyone down. Two different Tiki drinks were served at the bar. The drinks were named the Jungle Bird (rum based) and El Diablo (tequilla based). The Airbnb owner collected a ton of Tiki glasses over the years (so cool!) and allowed us to use them. The drinks were adorned with fun cocktail garnishes, coconut straws and paper umbrellas.
Food
The food was really fun to work on for this themed party. For dinner we served chicken and swordfish teriyaki skewers, Hawaiian fried rice, ham and pineapple sliders, coconut green beans, coconut shrimp and fried plantains. Who doesn’t love food that you can decorate with tiny umbrellas?
Dessert
The pina colada cupcakes were my favorite thing to make for the party. Made with dark rum, fresh pineapple and shaved coconut, they definitely tasted like paradise. They were easy to make, and held up pretty well in the heat! (Recipe coming soon!)
I also decided to experiment with edibles for the first time after receiving the Edibles Cookbook for Christmas. If you follow me on insta (@lola.cherie.cola) you probably watched the process on my stories. Since there was a fire pit I thought making 5mg marshmallows was a fun way to jazz up the smore’s. They did not disappoint, and also they were just really freaking cute! The night ended with a trip to the hot tub and fun conversations. It’s a party I won’t soon forget!
