The past few weeks have been… far from ordinary. We’re all working from home. We’re all drinking too much wine. We’re all video conferencing our friends after drinking too much wine. Overall, this has been scary. But in the darkness we must find light. Which is why I started this blog. I’ve always had jobs that have consumed all of my time- mostly in a non creative space. All I wanted was time, and natural light, to do the things I wanted.
I don’t know about you, but after about 3-4 days of quarantine I was wined out. I wanted a cocktail. I missed restaurants and bars. The internet was making memes of quarantini’s with emergen-c. I had oranges. I had gin. I felt like I needed a vitamin C boost. From there the orange rosemary quarantini was born.
The syrup consists of orange juice, water, sugar and rosemary and then it is shaken with gin.
Ingredients:
Juice from half an orange
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup of water
2 sprigs of rosemary
4oz of gin
To make the syrup:
Squeeze juice from half an orange into a medium pot. Add the sugar and water. Heat on medium and bring to a simmer. Add the rosemary and an orange slice. Reduce the heat to low and continue to steep for 15 minutes. This will create a syrup and the rosemary flavor will come through.
Remove from heat and chill for at least a half hour until cold. You should have around 4oz of syrup. Shake vigorously with 4oz of gin. Pour into a glass over ice. Garnish with an orange slice and a sprig of rosemary.
